Arrival In Beijing and Millennium Heights Apartment

We arrived in Beijing late Sunday night. We checked in to the Hyatt hotel next door to our apartment about midnight. We awoke (early) to bright sunshine and a blue sky.

Here is the view out our apartment window. The green roofs are the Peking Union Medical College.

What is all this talk about air pollution in China?

Here are a few shots of the inside of our apartment. This is looking more or less from the front door.

The official name of the apartments is The Tower Apartments at Oriental Plaza. We are in Millennium Heights block.

Here is a shot of the master bedroom.

This link will take you the location in google maps. Our apartment building is at the G in the Grand Hyatt label.

The shot is from the windows looking toward the front door. The bottled water dispenser has since moved to the kitchen/laundry area. You can see some of the 8 suitcases we brought with us lined up along the left wall.

This shot is looking in the kitchen door.

There is a full size oven and dishwasher but no drawers.

This laundry/pantry area is to the left of the stove in the shot above.

Here is a shot out the window of the apartment in the late afternoon as the sun is getting low on the horizon.

The Peking Union Medical College dates to 1906. The Presbyterian Church had a role in its founding.

Flight to China and Flag Update

Here are a few pictures Margot took out of the plane window on the way into Seattle on Saturday evening.

I'm not sure what the name of these tall mountains are. Generally, these are the Cascades.

The Cascades are more rugged than I thought.

This is a picture of Mt Rainier taken from the Delta lounge at the Seattle airport.

The lounge was mostly empty on Saturday evening of a holiday weekend.

OK. I haven't been paying much attention to the flag counter on the side bar of the blog. So what's the explanation. Are there no internet users in Vermont, Delaware, New Mexico, Wyoming or North Dakota?

No visitors from those 5 states but I've had visitors to the blog from Costa Rica, Malta, Chile, Iceland, Macedonia (where is that anyway), Peru, Morocco, New Caledonia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and Belarus?

Rogers, Arkansas Wildlife

Margot and I went to Rogers to visit my parents for a few days before we left for Beijing.

I thought the sunset made for nice light on the lake.

As I'm admiring the scene along comes a couple of foxes.

Tough to get a good picture of them when they are moving. The light was pretty dim.

I'm not sure if the is the same one in the shot above.

These pictures are from the driveway of the house.

 Here is another shot.

There are 3 foxes that are reported to hang out together but I only saw 2 myself.

The following day I went out to the end of the driveway and sat down for a while. Sure enough, about the same time of day they run by - headed in the other direction. Notice the difference in the light from one day to the next.

The next day these 2 fawns wandered by the front window. Sort of hard to see but it is raining - the remnants of hurricane Issac.

Following along behind was mom.

I took these from inside the house through the living room window.

How long do you call young deer fawns? They are spotted but they are getting pretty big by this time of the year.

One last shot.

Click to enlarge any of them.
