Around Newburgh, Indiana

Margot and I took some pictures around Newburgh this Saturday. She was looking for pictures that could potentially by used in Women's Club Cookbook.

Sort of a river theme for these first few pictures. This is the old lock and dam house. The dam was removed when the new one was built.

There was a lot of river traffic Saturday. We saw 4 coal barges in just a few miles of the river.

The Old Stone House or the Roberts-Morton House is located about a mile or so up river from the new dam. It was built in 1834. It is now owned by the University of Evansville.

This grandfather/grandson team were planting flowers at the main intersection in old Newburgh.

Here is another view of the intersection.

These 2 houses are located about a block up the street from the previous pictures. Built around 1900.

The one on the left is for sale - $325,000.

This is a store. Not sure what the history of this building is but it has been around for awhile.

Rural Kentucky - Oil Wells and Tractors

Took a ride around in the countryside last Sunday. Lots of abandoned and active oil wells in this area.

This one is abandoned. The Ohio River is just beyond the trees in the background.

Is one is actively pumping. It is located about 120 yards due east of the one above.

You can walk right up to these wells although usually they are a little further from the road. No fences, etc.

Be careful around these. There is no guard around the belts, etc.

Here is a look at the well head. The rod leaving the top of the picture on the right hand side is the rod you see going up and down as the pump moves.

The rectangular box next to the concrete is a mechanically driven jockey pump. There is a rod that moves a lever as the pump rocks. It is pumping emulsifier from the drum into the oil as it leaves the well.

I looked all over the internet trying to find out what DMO 100 is. Other than an emulsifier, I'm not sure. I imagine it is added to the oil to keep any water dispersed until it gets to the refinery.

On the way home we came across this tractor and disk arrangement taking up most of the road.

I pulled off the side and stuck the camera out of the window.

Just got a glimpse of the old guy driving the rig.

Is that a hamburger in his hand? He must have caused quite a traffic jam at McDonalds.

He seemed pretty excited to get his picture taken.

At least that is my assumption since he is waving with all 5 fingers!

Springtime in Indiana - Easter Egg Hunt, Peonies, and Dogwoods

Well, spring has definitely arrived in Evansville. I don't know who's house this is but I thought the trees were amazing.

The house is on Plaza Dr.

Here is our front yard. Not quite the same maturity in the landscaping.

Palm Sunday means Easter egg hunt at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

These 5 look like they are taking it pretty seriously. Getting psyched to score the most candy.
