The Bund at NIght

The Bund in Shanghai at night

After dinner one evening we took a walk down to The Bund. This is the strip of land along the Huangpu River on the west bank. It was the location of many western banks, etc beginning in the early 1900s.

Pudong as seen from the Bund at night

The Bund itself is very interesting but people mainly go to look across the river to the new develpment in the Pudong area of Shanghai. This area has changed from farmland to an incredible urban environment in the last 25 years or so.

The Pearl Tower is on the far left and the new Shanghai Tower under construction is on the right (no lights).

There is a lot of traffic on the river. Not only dinner and sightseeing cruises but also freighters of every size.

The good news is that it is a big river. However, there are a lot of twists and turns. All said, there don't seem to be very many accidents.

This boat is styled after and Mississippi River paddle boat.

Overall, it is a very impressive sight.

The moon was almost full that night.
Yu Garden shopping area in Shanghai

On our way back from the Bund we passed by the Yu Garden shopping area that I posted about earlier. It was closing for the evening when we passed by about 8:30.

You can see a view from above in this post if you missed it earlier. Scroll to the bottom. Shanghai
